How I approach it

Before marketing, I spent eight years writing equity analysis for individual investors at The Motley Fool. I wrote 178 articles, mostly covering consumer goods and agriculture. That’s where I developed my writing voice and the core philosophy behind it: take something complicated, figure out what the reader actually needs to know, and say it like a person would.

At ACNL that turned into governance communications, podcast outlines, and the steady stream of email and social copy that keeps an organization sounding like itself. I write plain and conversationally on purpose. The fastest way to lose a busy reader is to perform seriousness at them instead of just being clear.

Samples

A few representative pieces — two longer-form papers from my master’s program at USC, and three from the Motley Fool years. The full Fool archive — all 178 — lives at fool.com/author/1796.
